Apple Power
If Im getting into animation is an Apple Mac book pro have the power or is a desktop the only way to go?
I want to be able to use maya and other programs with ease can the apple lab tops handle it or do i need a power house type apple like the Quad ?
Can each be as capable?
I work with a number of animators (mostly computer animation majors), and they tend to go both ways. A number of them have a high end desktop (Mac Pro), and a bottom-end macbook.
MBP’s will do the job, but most people I work with tell me that those are only good enough for about a year or two, given the demanding work you do in animation, and cost too much to replace. They use a basic MB for doing work between classes, at work, during less important classes, etc, and then use the Mac Pro powerhouse for the real rendering, storage, etc. Consider it 5k for good MP + MB setup, vs 6k for 2 high-end MBP’s over the course of 4 years.
